10 Tips for Removing Animal Fur From Everything

by | May 28, 2021 | Home & Lifestyle

There’s nothing like having a pet. They bring happiness to your home, your family, and your life. Bringing a pet into your home brings an abundance of warmth, love, and laughter, but it also often means bringing in a whole lot of fur. While we love our pets endlessly, we can all admit that we don’t love having a thin blanket of fur on every surface in the house – the expensive couch, the bed, the clean basket of laundry, the list goes on! To help you out, we’ve put together 10 ways to successfully & easily remove animal fur from everything!

Damp Sponge

While this may seem obvious, a lot of pet owners don’t think to use a damp sponge when trying to collect their pet’s fur around the house. All you need to do is dampen a sponge (we don’t suggest using the same one that you would for your dishes) and run it along the furry surface. After each stroke, rinse, dab off, and repeat! The sponge texture along with it being damp (not soaked), is the perfect combination for successfully collecting fur.

Rubber Gloves

This is our favorite technique because it’s one of the easiest and most effective ways to successfully remove fur. All you have to do is put on a dry pair of rubber gloves and run your hand, with the glove on, across the affected surface. The static from the latex makes it easier to grab and attract the fur.

Liquid Fabric Softener

If you have a shedding pet, you know that getting fur off of carpet can be a close to impossible task. That’s why this DIY hack is incredible for anyone battling with carpets. Fill a spray bottle with a mixture of water and a spoonful of liquid fabric softener. Spray the solution to the affected carpet area, leave it on for 5 minutes without touching, and then vacuum it all up! This solution causes the little hidden hairs to rise to the surface of the carpet so that you can get a real, deep clean.

Microfiber Mop

If you live in a place with hardwood floors, this method is the one for you. With hardwood floors, if you try to vacuum up the hair, it’ll likely just get blown around to other parts of the house. With a mop, you’ll be able to not only collect the fur, but you’ll also be collecting any dust or other debris. The key to this is making sure that you get a microfiber mop rather than a traditional one.

Rubber Balloons

This is a more untraditional method but an effective and fun one! The static electricity from balloons attracts animal hair, so if you run an inflated balloon over the furry area, it’ll pick it all up.

Dryer Sheets

Instead of being reactionary with cleaning up pet fur, be preventative by consistently running a dryer sheet over your pet’s body so that it attracts any loose hairs that are waiting to populate your floors and surfaces. This can be particularly effective when bringing a pet in your car – instead of having to clean up your car after the ride, give your pet a quick dyer sheet rub down and you’ll see dramatic results!

Dryer Balls

Dealing with animal fur can be exhausting, we get it. If you’re over trying to handle it yourself, let your washer and dryer do it all for you. Purchase a pack of dryer balls that are specifically designed for hair removal. Throw one of these in with your load and you’ll see the incredible results for yourself! Plus these dryer balls typically have other added benefits like cutting down on drying time!

Anti-Static Sprays

This is a tool that most people aren’t aware of but really should be! When you spray this solution on any surface, it’ll make eliminating hair that much easier by removing the electric charge of the fur.

Lint Roller

The classic, ol’ reliable technique. Lint rollers are the best tool for removing hail from clothes and from places like the couch or your bed. There are a wide variety of brands that sell lint rollers, so you can choose whichever you feel is best. All you have to do is roll the sticky surface along the furry places and tear off the used piece of sticky paper once you’re done, then repeat!

Frequent Brushings

This should always be done regardless of shedding problems since we all deserve to have nicely groomed hair! Depending on the breed, your pet may need more frequent brushings, which can also help as a preventive measure against shedding. Make sure to keep up with brushing so that you can continue to eliminate ways for the fur to continually take over your home.

We hope that these 10 tips help you live a more hair and fur-free life with your pet!
